Challenge
The National Trust of Australia (WA) sought to establish the Cancer Wellness Centre (CWC), an umbrella organisation for three cancer support charitable organisations. The challenge was to ensure the long-term sustainability of the member charities that would be housed in repurposed National Trust facilities. The initiative needed to unite diverse organisations under one structure, while securing the resources and strategies required to sustain their operations and expand support across Western Australia.
Approach
CIS was engaged on a five-year contract to provide strategic support and project management. Our role included:
Collaborating with CWC members and major supporters to align priorities
Designing the company structure, constitution, governance and management frameworks
Developing strategic and business plans for the CWC and its members
Implementing sustainability strategies and managing outcomes reporting to key supporters
Outcome
CIS secured $2.8 million in ongoing investment, enabling the expansion of cancer support services across Western Australia. The CWC was successfully established in a restored State heritage building at Wanslea, Cottesloe, and its transformation earned the Gerry Gauntlet Award at the 2015 WA Heritage Awards for exemplary community-based conservation and sustainable reuse. The Centre now provides a sustainable platform for cancer awareness, prevention, and support services.
