Challenge
The University of Melbourne wanted to assess the feasibility of advancing its capabilities in surgical anatomy and imaging technologies. The challenge was to identify commercialisation pathways, protect intellectual property, and explore strategic partnerships in an emerging field with diverse potential applications.
Approach
CIS built a robust understanding of the opportunity by:
Conducting targeted internal and external interviews with stakeholders.
Undertaking extensive desktop analysis of comparable technologies and initiatives.
Synthesising findings to surface two distinct opportunity areas, each with different commercialisation pathways.
Providing tailored recommendations on partnering strategies and intellectual property options.
Outcome
The feasibility study delivered clear insights into commercialisation scenarios and informed the University’s international partnering strategy. The recommendations guided key decisions around IP management, enabling the University to preserve and realise high-potential commercialisation options while accelerating its ambition to expand global collaborations.
