Challenge
The University of Melbourne sought to explore potential investments in research infrastructure and new commercial entities to capture value from its existing strengths in -omics based research. To move forward confidently, the University needed a feasibility assessment that considered technical, financial, regulatory, and reputational risks, and provided a clear basis for decision-making before committing significant internal funding.
Approach
CIS conducted a comprehensive feasibility study that included:
Detailed internal and external interviews to gather insights from stakeholders.
Desktop analysis of comparable initiatives to benchmark operations and economics.
Development of financial projections and risk analysis tailored to the University’s circumstances.
Delivery of findings and recommendations through a comprehensive report and executive presentations.
Outcomes
The feasibility analysis provided the University with clear recommendations on areas requiring further due diligence across partnering, commercialisation, and investment domains. Armed with this evidence-based assessment, the University continued to explore opportunities with external investors, ensuring informed decision-making and a stronger foundation for future investment strategies.
